‘Mausritter’ Gets a Massive Megadungeon in ‘Tomb of a Thousand Doors’ Now on Kickstarter
Mausritter, the TTRPG of mice and mazes, gets a massive, collaborative megadungeon in Tomb of a Thousand Doors, Kickstarting now!
What is it about playing mice that are also fantasy adventurers that is so appealing? It’s a whole subgenre within a subgenre. From the works of Brian Jacques’ Redwall to the Tale of Despereaux to Reepicheep from the Chronicles of Narnia, there’s just something about the idea of a mouse with a sword and a funny little hat or cloak that resonates with the primal brain.
To illustrate this point, there are several tabletop RPGs where you play as mice. Including Mouse Guard and, more relevant to this story: Mausritter. In Mausritter you play as a brave mouse adventurer in a huge and dangerous world that “does not look kindly on a small mouse.”
And hat world is about to get even bigger with the advent of a new megadungeon, Tomb of a Thousand Doors, a collaborative effort from the thriving Mausritter community, Kickstarting as we speak.
Tomb of a Thousand Doors – A Mausritter Megadungeon
Gather up picks and shovels and prepare packs as you delve deep into the forgotten stronghold of a mad mouse king – the Tomb of a Thousand Doors. A megadungeon for the rules-light fantasy adventure roleplaying game Mausritter.
It’s a deep and dark dungeon down there, and it will not be fair on a little mouse. But if you are cautious and maybe a bit daring and reckless, you may be able to retrieve unnumbered riches. If you delve for long enough, you may just uncover the greatest treasure of all mousekind.
So begins the Kickstarter video for the Mausritter Megadungeon. This is a massive-scale dungeon complex brought to life by members of the Mausritter third-party community. A point that calls attention to the fact that it’s the people who pick up the game and play it that often keep it going.
More than 30 unique dungeons comprise the megadungeon known as the Tomb of a Thousand Doors, all meant to be explored and delved over the course of hundreds of hours of play. If you’ve never heard of Mausritter, in a nutshell, it’s a rules-light game that puts you in command of a mouse adventurer. Fast-paced combat means that the adventure keeps moving.
And there’s a reason the copy for the game says “brutally fast character creation.” Because character death can happen a lot more frequently than in other RPGs, as can failure of any kind. It has that old-school vibe to it.
Meanwhile, the text of the book is already complete. The Kickstarter campaign is going to create the print run of the book. Ad inside is a full suite of 38 keyed dungeon locations with more than 250 rooms scattered between them. There are hexes a’plenty, rival adventuring parties, factions, even new bosses, treasures, and more.
This is an invaluable resource whether you’re looking for a campaign to play as-is, or a resource to add to your existing campaigns.
