‘Baldur’s Gate 3’ Will Get Cross-Platform Mods – Your PS5 Is About To Get Weird
Baldur’s Gate 3 console players rejoice! After yesterday’s Hotfix 19, Larian Studios revealed that cross-platform mod support is coming “later this year.”
Exciting news for console players, as Baldur’s Gate 3 developer Larian Studios reveals that cross-platform mod support is coming. This news comes in the wake of yesterday’s Hotfix #19, which addressed a number of glitches and bugs while trying to maintain compatibility with the community’s most popular mods.
Mentioning the mods at all is a stellar move by Larian. But it turns out that they’re doing much more than just keeping mods in mind when making new updates or fixes. As Larian’s Director of Publishing, Michael Douse, revealed on Twitter, a cross-platform plan for mods is already in the works.
Here’s what we know.
Baldur’s Gate 3 – “Robust” Plan for Mods for all!
In the wake of Hotfix 19 rolling out, Douse made a post on Twitter teasing a forthcoming update that will enable mods on the console version of the game as well:
We generally don’t talk about things til they’re ready, but as you may have read, we’re making an exception. We’ve been working on a robust, cross-platform plan for mod support to be released later in year. We love our modding community and we want to support them. It’s coming. https://t.co/54GsxNshlQ

And it turns out a system is already sort of in place, but it needs more testing, as Douse said. This is a killer move for the game. Baldur’s Gate 3 is already a stellar RPG sandbox, but there are some creative mods out there that blow the doors wide open on the kinds of play you can get up to.
There’s all the usual suspects – new clothing and equipment mods. Several nude mods (though nudity is already in the base game), more hair and face options, the whole works. But it goes beyond just character customization. There are new classes and subclasses, including the wide range of subclasses available in 5E that Larian didn’t include. A quick glance over at Nexusmods will turn up everything from the Samurai Fighter subclass to the Clockwork Soul Sorcerer.
Even mods that undo the level cap and let you get up to level 20 while unlocking the 5E spells not in the game. All this just a few short months after the release. There’s no telling how far the modding community will take the game.
And with Larian’s support, the sky truly does seem to be the limit.
