‘The Laundry Files RPG’ Launches on Kickstarter!
Charles Stross’ award-winning The Laundry Files comes to a tabletop near you very soon, and Kickstarter today with a new edition of the RPG.
There’s just something about investigating occult/magical occurrences that lends itself extremely well to tabletop roleplaying games. Perhaps that’s why Call of Cthulhu is consistently among the top ten RPGs, no matter where in the world you are. Playing an investigator from the real world, who’s suddenly plunged into a world beyond their comprehension is great.
And if you can add some bureaucracy to that? Like a labyrinth of paperwork forms and accounting departments that have to reconcile eldritch expenses and an occulting department that has to requisition their 3cc of mouse blood and resonant crystals from supplies? You’ve got what people secretly crave.
Look at shows like Loki or games like Control; the idea that somewhere out there, some kind of extremely banal government agency is cataloging and dealing with the extraordinary is both comforting and fascinating.
This is why something like The Laundry Files is perfect fodder for an RPG. And as luck would have it, the newest edition of the RPG, brought to you by Cubicle 7, is on Kickstarter today.
The Laundry Files RPG – Kickstarting Now
The Kickstarter campaign is to launch a new edition of The Laundry Roleplaying Game, starting with a whole set of new books, including player expansions as well as adventures revised for the new ruleset:
Introducing the second edition of The Laundry Roleplaying Game — an exhilarating blend of covert action, investigation, and dark cosmic horror that thrusts you into the chaotic world of underfunded government employees battling to save the world from unspeakable threats.
Your daily grind includes myriad perilous tasks, from exorcising co-workers gone awry to thwarting ambitious computer students from triggering reality-bending catastrophes. Sneak into supercomputer servers, join SAS troops on dimension-hopping missions, halt outbreaks of blood-draining brain parasites, and prepare for the inevitable apocalypse of CASE NIGHTMARE GREEN.
This second edition of The Laundry Roleplaying Game employs the acclaimed C7d6 system, renowned for its versatility, speed, and flexibility.
In a nutshell, you roll a pool of six-sided dice, trying to beat a difficulty class set by the DM. The more dice the better, and there are things you can take to manipulate that die roll, like Talents. It’s a fast play system that works to give you the opportunity to be one of the myriad staff in the Laundry.
And it’s already monumentally successful on Kickstarter, funding in 66 minutes, and raising nearly $90K at press time.
