Age of Sigmar: ‘Maggotkin of Nurgle’ Faction Focus – The Decay Spreads
The Maggotkin of Nurgle are under the spotlight with a new Faction Focus. The Papa Nurgle is in the house and he brought gifts!
The abundant gifts of Nurgle and the Neverborn are here to spread cheer (?) and merriment (?) to everyone! Wait a minute…there’s the rot of mildew and decay in the air. No, wait…that checks out. Get ready to see what the Maggotkin of Nurgle are going to do on the tabletop with these rules previews!
“Characterised by a jolly temperament seemingly at odds with the filth and disease that are the tools of his trade, Nurgle is a creature of cycles, for that which rots will eventually sprout and spread new life in the form of moulds, diseases, and maggots. His followers know him as ‘Grandfather’ and he welcomes his congregation with open arms, asking only that they share his gifts far and wide, eventually to infect all of reality with infernal poxes.”
Maggotkin of Nurgle – Battle Traits
The first trait is Blessed By The Plaguefather which is a once per turn ability. This allows you to one of two effects either Infect, Spread, or Mutate a diseased unit. This is one of those long-game abilities that requires you to spread the disease around but once you do, you start to hand out Mortal Wounds like candy. Next, we have Desperate Remedies which basically converts any healing or unit recursion to a unit into the removal of the disease. This is really going to infect your opponents more than your Maggotkin units.
Finally, we have Wracked With Disease which specifically targets enemy heroes with bonus mortal wounds. It’s not complicated with these Battle Traits — it’s all about spreading the disease tokens and generating mortal wounds. I think this is really going to hurt smaller, more elite armies more but it could also mess with other armies that rely on healing and recursion mechanics to stay in the fight.
Maggotkin of Nurgle Battle Formation
Once again we get a look at one of four of the Battle Formations from the army. The Tallyband of Nurgle really just amps up the disease damage by increasing the mortal wounds generated.
“Other rancid formations include bloated armies of Nurglite mortals that explode on death, showering enemies with putrid viscera, and legions of droning rotfly cavalry which buzz freely down from the skies. They’re rounded out by a menagerie of horrid horticulturists, which plant Feculent Gnarlmaws to usher Nurgle’s Garden into reality.”
Maggotkin of Nurgle – Lore of Malignance
Fleshy Abundance is just one of their spells. You can bet Papa Nurgle has more tricks in his lore than healing…
Maggotkin of Nurgle Warscrolls
Today, we’ve got the Great Unclean One, Sloppity Bilepiper, Harbinger of Decay, and the Putrid Blightkings warscrolls. It’s a nice spread but personally, I would have liked to see the base warscroll of the Plaguebearers…although we did get to see their Spearhead versions below.
Maggotkin of Nurgle Spearhead – Bleak Host
This Spearhead is currently the Vanguard box which has the following contents:
- 1x Spoilpox Scrivener
- 10x Plaguebearers of Nurgle
- 5x Putrid Blightkings
- 2x Pusgoyle Blightlords (can alternatively be built as 1x Lord of Afflictions and 1x Pusgoyle Blightlord)
Here’s a look at their rules and again the Plaguebearer’s Spearhead warscroll:
The Maggotkin of Nurgle are on the way and Papa Nurgle is sending gifts for all!
