Atomic Mass Games has dropped the details on the new Tomb of Dracula terrain pack One-Shot cards. Time to break them down.

We got a pretty good look at the new Tomb of Dracula Terrain Pack from Atomic Mass Games. This set for Marvel: Crisis Protocol is both thematic and playable in your games. Additionally, it comes with a pair of One-Shot cards you can use to modify your games of MCP.

Will your team find themselves plunged into darkness when battling around the Tomb of Dracula or will Dracula be empowered by the presence of his lair? The Tomb of Dracula comes with two optional One-Shot cards to enhance thematic gameplay.

Before we break these two cards down in detail it’s worth noting that these are still optional to bring. And, because they are One-Shots, you want to make sure your opponent is cool with using them, too. That said I think they are both fun additions and add some thematic flair to your games. So have fun with them!

Darkness Falls

First up, we’ve got Darkness Falls. This is a fairly simple One-Shot as far as rules go. For starters, it’s -1 Threat (so subtract 1 from your Threat Level for the mission you’re playing to build you team). Not only do you need to add the Tomb of Dracula Terrain feature on the board but now every character has Stealth, too!

Stealth is a superpower we’ve seen on plenty of other characters that basically means that they are unable to be targeted by attacks outside of range 3. For some characters this could be a problem. For a majority of characters this is probably the range they wanted to be at or around anyhow. That said, I could see how it could be a frustrating mechanic to play against if you aren’t expecting it — which is why you want to double check before you decide to use it!

Personally, I could go either way on this one. I’ll probably want to try it just to see how it impacts the game overall. Honestly, I think the -1 to Threat is going to be more of an issue than Stealth, but I don’t typically play “gunline” style lists.

This One-Shot seems like a lot of fun to me for reasons we’re going to dive into. First up, it’s -1 Threat (again) and for that you get to add the Tomb of Dracula on the tabletop. As as additional requirement you do need to have Dracula in one of the player’s rosters. Now we get into the exciting parts.

On the first power phase, Dracula gains a bonus 2 energy — that’s in addition to any normal power he gets. Next up, after Dracula deploys, the other player gets to deploy an unused Threat 3 or less character from their roster on the board. This character counts as “The Vampire Hunter” for this game.

Now, while having an additional Threat 3 character might sound good (and it kinda is) you have some additional restrictions. For starters, that character can only advance towards Dracula for the game. Which is probably why you get to deploy them after Dracula. Next, Dracula does have a bonus power that can just remove them from the game — at the cost of 8 energy.

I do like this One-Shot quite a bit. I’d probably try this one over the Darkness Falls card first. The real question is who would I plan to take as my “Vampire Hunter” character. I would say “Blade” but he’s Threat 4. On the other hand, if you have Blade you might also have Moon Knight and he’s only Threat 3…

In any case, you’ve got some time to decide before this kit hits store shelves. It’s currently up for Pre-order and has a release date of November 1, 2024.
