Games Workshop is deep diving into how you construct Decks for Warhammer Underworlds in the new Edition. Time to shuffle-up!

Warhammer Underworlds is getting a new edition and with it GW has made some big changes. However, one of the things that’s sticking around are the decks that you’ll be bringing to the game. The good news is not only is there a way to re-draw cards, but the deck building is also pretty easy to get a handle on, too.

Nemesis Deck-Building

It’s time to talk about the Nemesis format for Warhammer Underworlds, where the true deck-building aspect of the game comes in, adding loads more depth to your experience. Let’s take a look at the rules.”

This is the most “complex” mode to assemble a deck for in Warhammer Underworlds. That said, it allows for the most customization. At it’s core, you’re just going to want to start with any two universal Rivals decks.  These Rivals decks can also be mixes of the four different playstyles.

From there, follow the rest of the rules for deck construction — which we’re about to go over. It’s also important to note you can’t have more than one deck with a Plot Card.

Next up, choose 12 or more Objective cards from the two different Rivals decks. Also remember you can’t have more than 6 Surge Objectives in your Nemesis Objective deck. The Objective Deck is really how you’re going score those Glory points in the game. They are going to help focus on how you play your warband and are a big part of your strategy. It’s also worth mentioning you can have more than 12 cards in your deck. Why would you want to do that? I’m not sure to be honest. It seems like a way to water down your deck or to have more options. But it also seems like you might end up with more bad draws if you do that. I’d stick with the WarCom Team’s advice of “stay lean” with your deck construction here.

After that, you’re going to assemble your Power Deck by choosing 20 Power cards. Only half of them can be ploys! Once again, you can have more than 20 cards but…why? One more piece of advice WarCom has is to really think about each card and ask “does this help further my objectives” — I think that’s another really solid suggestion. Keep things lean and mean and focused.

WarCom also had two example decks which you can see above. If you really want the skinny on how to play these decks you can read about them here. For the most part, Nemesis Deck contruction seems pretty simple — relatively speaking. Now, I’m sure it’s going to get more complex as the card pool grows in the new edition. However, for now, it’s just grab two Rivals decks and re-assemble the decks to your liking.

Once again, if you want to learn more about the new edition, check out GW’s First Play for Warhammer Underworlds: Embergard. It’s a longer video but they really do a good job explaining things and going over questions in chat.

Now, we just need to get our hands on these Rivals decks…
