Space Marine 2: Neo-Volkite Pistol Now Available
It’s time to update your weapon load-outs. The Neo-Volkite Pistol is available for use in Space Marine 2. Time to zap some bugs!
Get ready to point-and-hold your Neo-Volkite Pistols at the enemy and watch them explode! The death ray from 30k has arrived in Space Marine 2.
While you probably won’t take any damage from the enemies exploding, you’ll have to spends extra time cleaning off all that gore…
This is a new weapon available to the Bulkwark, Assault, and Vanguard Classes. In game it functions like a laser…but with less “cut things in half” and more explosive results. It’s a beam weapon that you’ll want to hold on your target. Smaller targets will explode faster. For the larger ones it can take longer but it does seem to have a bit of a “stun” effect. Eventually the target will explode and the gory results speak for themselves.
Neo-Volkite Pistol History
Volkite weapons aren’t a new thing in Warhammer 40,000. In fact, their origins actually pre-date the Horus Heresy.
A Volkite Weapon is a Mechanicum term for a type of ancient “thermal” ray weapon dating back to the Age of Strife. How these differ from other rays that heat up a target (such as a thermal laser or melta weapon) is unclear.
Possessing a killing power surpassing most armaments of their size, Volkites were little-understood and difficult to replicate on even the most capable Mechanicus Forge Worlds. Volkite weapons could deflagrate organic matter, explosively burning flesh into ash and jetting fire. A direct hit by a Volkite weapon could cause a target to simply combust, often taking nearby comrades with them.
At one point they were relatively common in the fledgling Space Marine Legions, but by the time of the Horus Heresy were a rarity and had been replaced by the more flexible and easy to manufacture bolter. The loss of Forge Worlds during the Horus Heresy sped the decline of Volkite weapons in the Imperium.
You’re welcome. ~Belsiarius Cawl, probably.
These new versions of the Volkite Weapons are called “Neo-Volkite” because they have been “reinvented” by Archmagos Dominus Belisarius Cawl and are typically issued to Primaris Lieutenants or other higher-ranking Space Marines. That said, they are functionally the same as their Heresy-era predecessors even if they have been tweaked by the modern Adeptus Mechanicus for mass production.
So now you can take them out for a spin in Space Marine 2. Or a blast. Beam? Eh, whatever — go fry some bugs!
Space Marine 2 is out now on Steam and other platforms.
Happy Bug Hunting, Neo-Volkite Style!
