Marvel: Crisis Protocol – Bring On The Fantastic Four
The first family of Marvel Comics is still mysteriously absent from Marvel: Crisis Protocol. Bring on the Fantastic Four already!
When it comes to Marvel characters there’s plenty to choose from. For a game like Marvel: Crisis Protocol that’s great — a deep roster means that there’s no shortage of new characters to bring in. So why haven’t we gotten the Fantastic Four in MCP yet? I’m sure this is a question that get’s brought up a ton by fans of the game. And I’m also sure that Atomic Mass Games knows the demand is there. I’m also betting there is some “behind-the-scenes” reason they can’t unleash the Fantastic Four in MCP …yet.
I have little doubt that the Fantastic Four are going to make an appearance one day. And when they do, the can blow the doors off a whole ton of characters I can’t wait to see in Marvel: Crisis Protocol.
Fantastic Four
This one’s a gimme but all four of the members of the Fantastic Four. Reed, Sue, Johnny, and Ben. Preferably in an Affiliation Box four pack. It’s a no brainer. But there’s also the terrain sets that could accompany them: The Baxter Building (or maybe a few smaller NYC apartment-style buildings). The Fantasti-Car. Maybe some various “science lab” style gear.
If we can get a Quinjet, we can get a Fantasti-Car set!
The point is there’s loads of terrain options that could also be released with the Fantastic Four. And that’s just the start…
Doctor Doom
We really can’t get the Fantastic Four with Doctor Doom, can we? He’s Reed’s rival and those two need to both exist. And having Doom around opens the door for a TON of other side characters from his crew. Doombots in particular could be awesome as Grunts. But I’d also like to see some of his other underlings show up. Fritz and Boris come to mind. Then again, he’s DOOM.
Also, Doom has beef with Mephisto who’s now in the game, too. That could be a fun Ultimate Encounter…Doctor Doom and Doctor Strange battling Mephisto…Just tossing that out there.
Mole Man
Mole Man might be taken as a bit of a joke character…but he’s got a long history with the Fantastic Four. Plus the dude’s got a race of Moloids to aid him. I wouldn’t underestimate him in a fight is all I’m saying. Plus he first appeared in the Fantastic Four’s first issue! He’s a classic.
Super-Skrull
Super-Skrull was modified to have the same powers as the Fantastic Four, but better. If we get the Fantastic Four, then we can get a Super-Skrull as well as open the door for the rest of the Skrull characters to be added. Or at least Skrull-Invasion versions of existing characters which could be a fun take on existing characters, too.
Rama-Tut, aka Kang The Conqueror
Kang The Conqueror’s story is complicated. But at one point in his timeline he becomes Rama-Tut. He first appeared in Fantastic Four (1961) #19 and was defeated — sorta. Time travel aside, this would be a fun way to introduce Kang The Conqueror into MCP. Funny enough, I also think that Kang should have a rule that allows him to break the “alter ego” rule so you could have various versions of Kang all on the table fighting together. It happens it in the comics…just sayin.
Galactus
If we ever get a Galactus kit for Marvel: Crisis Protocol I will very excited. Galactus is one of those cosmic-level beings and I don’t think I need to get into his story here. Needless to say, he was repelled by Reed Richards and the Fantastic Four. I say repelled and defeated because, well, Galactus still hungers. Anyhow, he’s another iconic character that would be an awesome addition however you slice it.
Silver Surfer (and the Other Heralds of Galactus)
Again, I don’t think the Silver Surfer needs much of an introduction. Norrin Radd is a Herald of Galactus — and he’s not the only one. There have been several over the years and by adding the Fanastic Four, the door to adding them all gets opened. Honestly, if I were at AMG, I would released the Fantastic Four, then I’d release the Heralds of Galactus. And then, as a final surprise, Galactus himself. That would be an EVENT.
Franklin Richards
The son of Reed and Sue, Franklin Richards is a mutant with some SERIOUSLY OP powers. But introducing him also paves the way for other character tie-ins with the Inhumans (who already exist in MCP), Agatha Harkness (who was his governess), Onslaught, and a whole lot more. There’s also a theory that it’s because of Franklin Richards that the characters in Marvel Comics don’t age…but that’s a rabbit hole I’m not going to go into here.
The Maker
The Maker’s identity is actually Reed Richards from the Ultimate Universe. The same one that Miles Morales is from. It’s complicated. And he’s NOT a good guy. But he is a very interesting character and I think if we’re opening the door up to the Fantastic Four, well, The Maker is lurking in the background. I think he could be a very big surprise addition and would also open the door for another massive roster of characters — and not just from the old Ultimates universe, but from the new one that’s currently being developed. Again, it’s complicated…”Because Comics!”
This is really just the tip of the Fantastic Four iceberg. There’s even more characters that would make sense to add to MCP if/when the Fantastic Four arrive!
