‘Critical Role’ Unveils ‘Daggerheart’s New Cover At PAX Unplugged
Critical Role’s Darrington Press has officially revealed the Cover Art for its upcoming fantasy RPG, Daggerheart. Come take a look.
Daggerheart, the fantasy RPG coming soon from Critical Role‘s publishing arm, Darrington Press, is full of all sorts of things. For one, there’s its sprawling card-based mechanics. There’s the Hope & Fear dice that it leans on. And, of course, there’s a ton of gorgeous art within.
And without. At PAX Unplugged, Darrington Press revealed the official Cover Art for the upcoming book, due out in a few scant months. And this is just the beginning of PAX Unplugged. Keep an eye out for more updates. But for now, feast your eyes.
Daggerheart on Display At PAX Unplugged
At the heart (pun intended) of Critical Role’s new RPG are a few different mechanics. If you’ve been following along with the playtest, you know most of this already. But, if you haven’t, in a nutshell: PC classes have two different “Domains” available to them. These are broad sets of powers that thematically come together. Things like Blade or Arcane or Bone, for instance.
Each class gets to pick abilities from within those domains, in the form of cards. But you’ll find more cards than that – PCs also have cards that stem from their Ancestry and Community.
These cards give you powers. Your powers let you do stuff in the game. When you do stuff in the game, you’lll roll dice, including the Hope Dice or Fear Dice which add narrative problems to the game. You can get a much better idea of how it all works from this video:
And if you happen to be at PAX Unplugged this weekend, you can see it for yourself:
“Unveiling at PAX Unplugged, the artwork embodies Daggerheart’s sense of wonder and adventure, rich storytelling, and captivating world and characters awaiting players. The standard Daggerheart Core Set comes as both a core rulebook and a box to hold cards. […] Fans attending PAX Unplugged can view both the standard edition of the Daggerheart Core Set as well as the extras-packed limited edition at the Darrington Press booth (#3535).”
You can also see a few different Daggerheart events at the con (or on Twitch in some cases). Panels include:
- Worldbuilding with Critical Role – Worldbuilding in Daggerheart with Matthew Mercer and Ashley Johnson
- Daggerheart Demos – Demos of Daggerheart at the Gaming Hall
- A Daggerheart Critmas Story Live – A live event featuring the Critical Role cast playing Daggerheart on Saturday
