Warhammer Grotmas Day 11 – Space Marine ‘Librarius Conclave’ Unleash The Warp
It’s time for the Space Marines to send in the Librarians with the Librarius Conclave. This psychic lashing has been long overdue.
I hope you don’t have any late fees from your library because the Space Marine Librarians are coming to collect. You may have your doubts about these book thumping Psykers but they are going to bring the pain and the buffs with this new detachment. The Librarius Conclave unleashes the wrath of the Adeptus Astartes Librarians.
“The psychic Space Marines who make up the ranks of a Chapter’s Librarius usually stand apart from their battle‐brothers, many of whom find their mastery of the occult disturbing. Despite their misgivings, no Space Marine doubts the might of their Librarians. On rare occasions, generally, as a response to daemonic invasion or the machinations of xenos psykers, a group of Librarians may accompany a hand‐picked task force to battle. When leading squads of transhuman warriors into the fight, this conclave will enhance their battle‐brothers’ already supreme strength, speed and endurance with channelled empyric energies, confound their enemies with illusory deceptions, or obliterate the foe in blazing torrents of flame.”

Librarius Conclave
Today’s detachment clearly has a theme and that is Space Marine Librarians. If you’re going to run this one you’re basically going to be playing Space Marines with a heavy focus on bringing in Adeptus Astartes Psykers of all shapes and sizes. If you’ve been sitting on a list with as many Librarians as you can squeeze in there now is your time to shine. And if you have been sitting on that list I’m starting to wonder if you might a little psychic yourself…
Anyhow, the main rule here is Psychic Discipline. This detachment rule allows you to really enhance your Librarians and customize them for the task at hand for the up coming battle round. This list of Disciplines is extremely flexible. It will allow you to buff the Librarians (and the units they are attached to) with just the right tool for the job.
Now, if you’ve been around Warhammer 40k long enough, you might recognize the name of some these “new” Disciplines. That’s because they are recycled from previous editions. I’m not mad about it. I’m just pointing that out. Also, there’s no roll for any of these to take effect. They just happen.
As before, we’ve gotten four “new” enhancements and six new stratagems. I write “new” because the names of basically all of these are former psychic powers taken from previous editions, too. I see what you’re doing GW and I get it.
Will this psychic buff be worth bringing over your other Space Marine detachment options? I’ll let you decide on that front. It sure seems like it’s time to unleash the “Hounds of the Library” now. So go out there and hunt down for overdue (re: Heretical) books. The Librarians are well versed in pain!
