Warhammer 40K: Top 5 Units to Attach a Librarian To
Goatboy here to talk about the best units you can attach a Librarian to, and activate some fun powers from the Librarius Conclave Detachment.
The Librarius Conclave Detachment for Codex Space Marine is a fun new detachment that came out last week with a lot of interesting rules and interactions. All of these rules are based on a unit being an Adeptus Astartes Psyker – which is what happens to a unit with getting a psychic brain bro being assigned to their group.
As usual I will go over the top 5 units I like to see with a Librarian. This new Detachment – the Librarius Conclave – grants the ability for the player to pick a different Psychic Discipline per battle round that grants those units some cool new powers. These are things like getting a +2” to their movement a powerful Stratagem buff or rerolls to hit and wound. All of these extra rules are powerful buffs that just need you to have someone with a touch of magic added to your units.
5. Librarian in Terminator Armor w/Terminator Squad
This is a pretty simple set up – you get a nice 10-man squad of Terminators that just love to either get a -1 to the strength of an attack coming at them, +2” of movement, or just pile of rerolls. The Squad gets a Sustained Hits 1 from the Librarian and whatever other “upgrades” you could give it from the enhancements.
4. Librarian in Phobos Armor w/Eliminator Squad
Besides just being hard to shoot this combo can get you a little murder squad with Lascannon bullets that get to reroll hits of 1 and wounds of 1. You mix this all together and there is no way you are getting at group of these guys as they can’t be shot outside of 12”, get a reactive move, and even other fun things like Anti-Monster 5+ and Anti-Vehicle 5+ on top of Devastating Wounds if they don’t move.
3. Mephiston
This guy is a combo all on his own as he can activate some powers, get moving faster, and just get in like a beat stick. Oh were you sad that he didn’t have rerolls to hit and wound? Well now he can get it all by himself. How about making him a tad tougher too wound with Telekinesis Kyle? This guy is gonna be a nutty little Blood Angels murder monster with extra psychic bullet powers.
2. Librarian w/Sternguard Veterans
These guys love some rerolls as well as having a nice bump in save with a flat 4+ invulnerable when joined by your magic mind bullet daddy of the tabletop. You could get a bunch of Lethal Hits with Ignores cover too on these nicely upgraded Sternguards in the new dataslate update. They love to Oath of Moment someone to death and a Librarian is just a nice bit of icing on that cupcake of doom you present to your opponent.
1. Ezekiel w/Inner Circle Companions or Bladeguard Veterans
You know how annoying it is that regular Space Marine Librarians can’t join Bladeguard Veterans. Do you know who can? That’s right one of the coolest looking resin Models that is still usable in the game can. While Ezekiel can’t add a ton with his own abilities to the unit he can easily shit some of these mind powers onto a powerful close combat unit. Take your pick from a unit with an invulnerable save or a unit that can hit like a ton of bricks with their spooky little watchers in the dark.
Bonus: Heavy Intercessor Squad w/Inquisitor
Thru the lovely interactions of Keywords you can get extra Psychic buddies thru the Ally system. The unit gets the Psyker Keyword and still has Adeptus Astartes so it should work. Of course they could make this go away if it was too powerful – but you need to take this detachment, take Heavy Intercessors (which are not too bad now with updates), and then add in an Inquisitor to make it all happen.
For the Emperor!
