Warhammer 40K: Top 5 Grotmas Detachments You’ll See at LVO
Goatboy here with the top five Warhammer 40K Grotmas Detachments you will see at LVO 2025. There are some mean ones!
We’ve already been told that LVO is letting them all in so while a lot of them are more fluffy there are some mean ones in there. Let’s dive on in and go over the ones I expect to see during my battles on neoprene mats, mdf terrain, and the glitz of Las Vegas.
Adeptus Custodes Solar Spearhead
The first one I expect to see a lot of is the Adeptus Custodes Solar Spearhead detachment. The amount of players that cried out in joy to see their Dreadnoughts get better once again will let this one show up a ton. I expect to see a bunch of Silent Sisters, Telemons, and even the ole Venerable Contemptor dreadnought. Do not sleep on this list as while it isn’t pushing nearly as many Custodes Wardens on the table they will come and crush you with their golden fists. The Venerable Contemptor Dreadnought is a sleeper too in that it is cheap, gets back up on a 2+, and can hit pretty hard. You mix this with a few sprinklings of Bikers and you got a really tough army to deal with that is conveniently small and easy to fly with.
Necron Starshatter Arsenal
Next up on this list is the current boogie man from the Detachments – the Necron Starshatter Arsenal. You mix a powerful ability that activates what a Necron player is already taking and you got a recipe for a winning strategy. As the game has gotten used to and fixed some of the deep striking nonsense the shift on the evil Space Robots to a “do more damage” type of build will be important. You can throw out so much damage with all the Vehicles and mounted options having assault which just activates the ability to move fast and get ready to punch hard.
Ork Taktikal Brigade
The Ork Taktikal Brigade might be a more niche style one but it feels like it has some legs. There is a chance to do so much damage with some of the shooting elements and other weird tricks. Just amplifying your Flash Gitz and Mek Guns up would do wonders to the army as well as just some of the other interesting elements. It makes me wonder if going hard into the “faster” elements to create a moving wall of steel, bullets, and damage potential might be the way to go with this.
Space Marine Librarius Conclave
The Space Marine Librarius Conclave is an interesting detachment as it lets you build these custom psychic units to help control the game. I do think there is some play here – especially in using Terminators or other tough units. The Blood Angel version gives you access to Mephiston which is a powerful psychic that can easily level himself up without needing a unit to run around with. I do wonder how much we can shove into these tougher units to really try to overwhelm the board with a Stat check army full of terminators and other fun things. Throw in three Terminator Units, some Reiver units with Librarians, and then Mephiston gives you a very aggressive mid board army ready to party.
CSM Creations of Bile
Finally the one I expect to see a ton of if you run into CSM players is the Creations of Bile list. It supercharges what already makes chaos deadly which is bully close combat units mixed with hyper efficient shooting. Some of the best Vindicators come from CSM with exploding hits leading to more waves of damage as a ton of 3 wound infantry units move closer and get ready to punish your army. Heck it even has another insane Chaos Lord character that can easily jump out and just shower a unit in potential devastating wounds. This list will show up a lot so be prepared to be upset when they roll the perfect 2 upgrades to wreck your army.
What other armies do you think will see show up from Grotmas? Some of the Daemon builds might show up especially the Slaanesh option. Just being able to put a ton of pressure on you quickly will be huge. I think the World Eaters is an interesting one – especially if you are leaning heavily into the 20+ Terminator builds.
Forewarned is Forearmed – Have a Happy LVO!
