Warhammer Grotmas Day 21 – T’au ‘Auxiliary Cadre’ Are The Gift Today
This Warhammer Grotmas gift is for all the T’au Commanders out there. Save your battlesuits and send in the Kroot and Vespids instead.
The Greater Good is getting their Grotmas Detachment. I hope you’ve got Kroot and Vespids on your list this year because they are the focus of the new Auxiliary Cadre detachment for the T’au.
“In the case of Auxiliary Cadres, however, the doctrine of unity is realised on a grand scale. These forces comprise a majority of alien auxiliaries, fighting alongside limited numbers of T’au specialists and heavy combat assets and provided with overall T’au strategic command. Such integrated cadres provide versatile response forces to plug gaps in Fire Caste lines of battle, blunt enemy aggression in dense terrain, and selflessly act as lures in grand Kauyon ambushes to spare valuable T’au lives.”
T’au Grotmas Detachment – Auxiliary Cadre
So the theme of this one is of course Kroot of Vespid meat shields Auxiliaries. Essentially, if you are bringing Kroot or Vespids they will act as both boons to your other T’au units and banes to your enemies. The Integrated Command Structure allows for your non-Kroot and Vespid T’au units to gain a bonus AP when shooting at a target within 9″ of a Kroot or Vespid unit.
Additionally, if Kroot or Vespid unit is wholly within 6″ of a T’au unit and the attacking unit is within 18″ of the Kroot/Vespids, they the have to target the Kroot/Vespids. The T’au are protected by their localised stealth projectors. So yes, that does mean the Kroot and Vespids are basically being used as meat shields.
Once again we’ve got the typical four enhancements and six stratagems to work with again. The nice part about these is there are some that do benefit the Kroot/Vespids directly. Student of Kauyon allows for your Kroot Shaper to nominate up to 3 Kroot Carnivores or Kroot Farstalkers units to Deep Strike. That’s kind of neat. I also like the Pheromone Waypoints Stratagem as it allows for some really fast moving Kroot or Vespids in your army.
I can see what GW was going for with this detachment. If you’re running a T’au army and have some Kroot or Vespids that you really want to include this detachment could be a good option for you. Besides, the Kroot and Vespids WANT to sacrifice themselves…it’s for the Greater Good, right?
Send in the Kroot and Vespids. We’ll stay back and pick off anyone left.
