Watch Your Chest: The ‘ALIEN’ RPG 2nd Edition Kickstarter Launch Date Has Been Announced
The ALIEN RPG has been gearing up for an “evolved edition” for a while now. And at last, there’s a Kickstarter date: March 25th.
The ALIEN RPG gears up for its big 2nd Edition debut. With more than five years of fan feedack, lessons learned, and a few really good movies in the franchise to help shape it, the 2nd Edition, known as ALIEN RPG – Evolved Edition is set to hit Kickstarter later this year.
Free League officially announced the launch date, March 25th, despite the fact that it’s still January, and concepts like “time” and “March” don’t actually exist yet. The publisher also announced some exciting new editions to the lineup, including a solo mode from Ironsworn designer Shawn Tomkin, so they should be forgiven for the crimes of reminding people that time is somehow moving forward despite New Year’s Eve being just the other day.

The ALIEN The Roleplaying Game: Evolved Edition – A 2nd Edition of a Killer Sci-Fi Horror RPG
The ALIEN RPG is well-loved here at BoLS. You can read about how its atmospheric terror works on both friends and family. But suffice it to say, the RPG is chock full of horrible ways to die in space, where, famously, no one can hear you scream.
A big part of that is in the cinematic gameplay mode, which has you cast as crew members in tense scenarios with their own secret agendas to pursue. It’s as much about the vibes and the tension of knowing that not every character is going to make it to the end of the session. But when you sign up for that, it’s a great time.
And now, the ALIEN RPG is set to debut its 2nd Edition. This will give you updated rules, and streamlined guides for playing it. The core rules will come with new artwork and new options, so players and GMs will have plenty of new corners to explore. Just watch out for eggs.
Here’s a taste of what you can expect:
- A new Core Rulebook with new layout and artwork
- Revised and expanded core rules for talents, stress and panic, and stealth
- Revised combat rules for armor, ammo, grenades, stuns, skirmishes, and spacehips
- New iconic weapons, items, ships, and locations from ALIEN: Romulus
- New rules in tools like zero gravity, miniatures rules, and an extended campaign play section
- Last Survivor, a solo mode designed by Shawn Tomkin and Matt Click
