Warhammer 40K: Aeldari Detachment Preview – Eight Options To Work With
The Aeldari have a set of eight Detachments to choose from. There should be something for everyone in the new Warhammer 40,000 Codex!
If you’re an Aeldari player and you saw the Battle Focus change yesterday you might be anxious to see the rest of the rules. Well, good news: there’s eight detachments to cover all your options and Games Workshop is showcasing a few today. Buckle-up because we’ve got a lot of ground to cover.
First, an overview – Codex: Aeldari includes eight Detachments. The Battle Host Detachment from their Index has changed significantly – and is rechristened the Warhost Detachment – thanks to the expansive changes to their army ability. Alongside it comes the Windrider Host, Guardian Battlehost, Spirit Conclave, Seer Council, and Aspect Host, each of which focus on one of the key elements of the Aeldari roster, while the Ghosts of the Webway and Devoted of Ynnead let you build your army around the Harlequins and Ynnari respectively.
Aeldari Detachment Previews
The very first Detachment we’re seeing is the new Aspect Host with the Path of the Warrior rule. If you’re a fan of the Aspect Warriors this one is definitely one to check out. It allows you to choose either re-roll of 1s on your to-hit or your to-wound rolls! Talk about a way to make your Aspect Warriors even more deadly!
The Aspect Host also has its own Stratagems and enhancements — just like you’d expect. Here’s a look at two of the Stratagems you’ll have access to:
I like the versitility of the Preternatural Precision. I’m a little concerned about the extra bookkeeping of all these Aspect Shrine Tokens to juggle however. But I think that’s a trade-off I’d be willing to work with for the benefits.
Above is a quick look at one of the Enhancements as well. Strategic Savant grants a bonus to a unit the Autarch or Autarch Wayleaper is leading. It’s a nice +1 to the unit’s OC stat.
Seer Council & The Strands of Fate
Now, with the Battle Focus change GW did say that Strands of Fate isn’t going away entirely. However, it’s been shifted to a specific Detachment. The Seer Council will be the home of this rule moving forward. On top of that, the rule has changed, too.
“Instead of manipulating dice rolls, they now grant your Farseers and Warlocks access to free Stratagems decided by the results you roll.”
So let’s be real — this is a completely different version of the rule. The Aeldari can no longer “bank” dice and use them when they want. Personally, I’m super glad to see the dice swapping/manipulation mechanic get completely gutted. I didn’t think GW would do this and I’m hoping the other, similar mechanics are also on notice for a rework, too. But hey that’s just my opinion.
Anyhow, the new mechanic allows you to at least get some “free” Stratagems out of it. Let’s take a look at a few of them.
We’ve got essentially a teleport and a stealth mechanic in these two stratagems. I can see both of these being very useful! And the Seer Council also has their own Enhancements to work with as well.
I think the Lucid Eye is going to be solid to choose as it interacts with their new Fate dice pool and allows for a bit more consistency. I know this change is going to take some getting used to for sure. But Battle Focus is a strong ability and I’m glad to see that shift for the Aeldari.
What do you think of the massive change to Strands of Fate?
