Warhammer 40K: Knights are Coming To Combat Patrol
The new issue of White Dwarf will have Combat Patrol rules for Imperial and Chaos Knights. Here comes the towering war machines!
Well if you were hoping for a lower model count army to play in Combat Patrol games I’ve got some good news. Armigers and War Dogs are coming to the game mode in the latest issue of White Dwarf. And don’t worry — they are basically playing their own version of Combat Patrol. Sorta.
“The Imperial and Chaos Knights earn new Combat Patrol rules featuring pairs of Armigers and War Dogs. The sheer strength and durability of these towering war machines makes piloting them a remarkably different gameplay experience compared to regular Combat Patrols, and to account for their low numbers, they play missions in their own special way. Both the Armiger Trailblazers and the Slaughter Talon score points from their own specific objectives – ignoring the normal primary and secondary objectives – but to find out what they are, you’ll need to read the issue.”
Knights In Combat Patrol
If you’re having mixed feelings about this one you’re not alone. When I first read the summary I also had some concerns. The biggest issue to me is that because of their low numbers GW basically had to create unique missions/objectives for them. They are going to ignore “the normal primary and secondary objectives.” So that makes be very curious to see how GW balanced them out.
Unfortunately we don’t have any more info on how exactly this will work. I am concerned for the overall balance of Combat Patrol with Armigers and War Dogs entering the fray. Those units can be a problem for sure. Especially if you compare them to some of the other Combat Patrols available.
Maybe it won’t be so bad though! Afterall, their custom objectives could be a really big balancing factor for them and help keep them in line. It’s also going to be difficult for Armigers and War Dogs to cover the field and protect the other objectives from the opposing side.
As of right now GW has 36 Combat Patrols you can download from them directly. I’m curious to see if the Chaos and Imperial Knights get added to that list, too. It’s going to be interesting to see how the meta shifts to accommodate these Knights showing up to play in the smaller format. I’m sure there will be some growing pains that come out of this one.
Will adding Knights (even these smaller ones) to Combat Patrol destabilize the game mode? Or do you think it will be a smooth addition to the game?
