‘Warhammer: The Old World’ – Five Characters We Still Need To See In The Game

Take a look at what epic characters we still need to get in Warhammer: The Old World.
We’ve had a good year and change of the Old World so far. Seven of the core armies have gotten their Arcane Journals. Each Journal has introduced at least a pair of named characters into the game. Some of them are classics that we expected to see back in the game. Most of them are brand new to ToW, which makes sense since it’s set about 250 years before WFB was. While most of the classic WFB aren’t active in this time period somewhere. We also know of a number of characters that do play a major role in the events unfolding around the ToW setting. So today let’s take a look at a few characters that we really need to see show up.
5. Tyrion/Teclis
Speaking of Elves, we’ve got a two-for-one with the twins High Elves Tyrion and Teclis. These two storied Elves have a long and rich history in both WFB and Age of Sigmar. Both are alive and active at the time The Old World is set. We don’t know a lot about what Tyrion was doing in this period, so it is possible he won’t show up and we don’t need him as much. However, Teclis was not only already famous, but played a major role in the Great War Against Chaos, which is what the period of the Old World is leading up to. In order to get to that point we really do need Teclis to show up, and hopefully have some cool rules. Since he wasn’t in the High Elf Arcane Journal, it’s likely he’s coming in something later.
4. Magnus The Pious
Speaking of major players, the time when the game is set finds the Empire without one. Or with too many. The Empire is divided in a multi-way civil war and weak. Eventfully a leader known as Magnus the Pious shows up and units the Empire, and the Old World, to fight and win the Great War Against Chaos before becoming Emperor. This means in order to get to that point it he story we need to get Magnus as an epic Empire hero/leader. However, the Old World is set about a few decades before the Great War and the rise of Magnus, so it is unclear when he will show up. It’s also possible we could multiple versions over the years as he rises to power. They did this with Valten in WFB.
3. Orion
Next up, we’ve got Orion. He’s a bit of a cross between an Elf and a supernatural being. Wood Elves are one of the core factions and the immortal Orion is active in the proper time period. He’s a massive and impossible presence and has a decent model. However, players have been clamoring for a new and updated version of him, and some rumors say one is coming. I can’t say if he’s going to get a new model, but I would be pretty shocked to see him left out of the Wood Elf armies. He’s a very different unit and kind of changes how Wood Elves play with him around. Hopefully he will be in the upcoming Arcane Journal.
2. Balun Alriksson
Going back to the Great War Against Chaos, we’ve got Balun Alriksson. The war was by the great alliance of Man, Elf and Dwarf. We’ve already looked at the leaders of men and elves in the war. Well, Balun Alriksson was the High King of the Dwarves during this period and led them in the war. As such he’s another pivotal character for the period and a major player. Obviously he wasn’t in the Dwarf AJ, though he is active right now. However as we get closer to the Great War we will need him to show up.
1. Asavar Kul
Of course you can’t have a Great War Against Chaos without some Chaos! Asavar Kul is the leader of the Chaos forces in the Great War. Like Archaon he is an Everchosen of Chaos and a being of immense power. It is known that he rides a chariot into battle, and he almost brings the world it’s knees. Now GW has mentioned that his rise has not really happened yet and it seems that is part of the story that ToW want’s to tell. Well, for all that to happen we will need to get some rules for him. I do wonder if, like is possible with Magnus, we might get several showing his rise to power. In fact it would be kind of cool to see these two rivals develop over several years and books and get more powerful, charting their twin course like some kind of… comet?
Let us know who else you think we need to show up in the Old World, down in the comments!
