Warhammer 40K: ‘More Dakka’ Detachment Gets The Nerf-Bat

The More Dakka Detachment apparently had too much of a good thing. Games Workshop has swung the Nerf-Bat and the correction is in.
It’s a sad day for the Ork players out there while everyone else breathes a sigh of relief. More Dakka has been reworked to bring down the effectiveness of the Ork Infantry shooting. Let’s check out the old rule and now how it’s been reworked.
Out With The Old
Above is the old Detachment rule for the More Dakka Detachment. What really made this one work is the good ol’ Sustained Hits 2 ability in here. For an army with majority BS 5+ shots, having your crits cause two additional hits effectively doubles the number of hits they can cause. So yeah…that seems good! While this only applied to Ork Infantry and Ork Walkers you could pack a LOT of punch in those units when it came time to hold down that trigger.
Additionally, Ork Infantry and Walkers also gained Assault on their ranged weapons when you called the Waaagh! While that’s good when you combined that with the Sustained Hits 2, well, yeah…that’s a whole lot of Dakka. It was More Dakka, if you will…
More Dakka Nerfed
So what’s the new version? Well, it’s not bad…but it’s certainly not as good:
“The Detachment Rule has been changed to passively grant Assault, while Ork units now gain Sustained Hits 1 during the Waaagh!. The Get Stuck In, Ladz! Stratagem now excludes Gretchin units, as they ain’t the ladz, and Long, Uncontrolled Bursts will now only work for a unit that won’t lay off the trigger.”
Basically, GW flipped the general Sustained Hits Boost with the Waaagh! activation boost, and then dropped Sustained Hits by 1. Ork Infantry and Walkers now have Assault on their ranged weapons which isn’t bad as it still allows them to play aggressive. However, there’s no sugarcoating the other change. Moving the Sustained Hits to “While the Waaagh! is active” and dropping the Sustained hits by 1 is a massive blow.
Personally, I’m not really crying too much about this nerf. But I’m also not an Ork player who was using this Detachment. Look, I know the feeling of having your fun toy (aka a busted Detachment) get reworked and become a shadow of it’s former self. So you have my empathy but you don’t have my sympathy. You’re going to have to adapt to less effective Ork shooting and maybe try out some of the other Detachments now.

More Dakka is now Less Dakka than before — but it’s still More Ork Dakka than you might expect!
