Both the Death Guard and the World Eaters are getting a new character to add. Now Games Workshop is showing them off!

We’ve known for a while that the Death Guard and World Eaters were getting a new Codex. We also got a look at the two new characters coming at the AdeptiCon Previews. Now, it’s time we got a teaser of their rules from GW. So let’s cut to the chase!

“The World Eaters and the Death Guard are mounting a two-pronged assault on the galaxy this month as both Codexes become available to pre-order on Saturday. Khorne and Nurgle have each anointed new champions, but whose is stronger? “

Death Guard Lord of Poxes

First up we have the Death Guard Lord of Poxes. After seeing the Detachment previews for the Death Guard yesterday, I think the Lord of Poxes is going to be a great option to add to your army.

Defensively, not only does he have Toughness 6 with 5 wounds paired with a 3+4++ save, he’s also got the Shroud of Disease going for him. That prevents himself and a unit he’s leading from being targeted by ranged attacks outside of 18″. And you really don’t want to get closer thanks to that Gift of Poxes which only enhances the distance of the Contagion Range.

Offensively, he also packs quite a punch. The Great Plague Blade is pretty nasty up close and while he doesn’t have a ton of range, again, the enemy has to close the gap to deal with him anyhow. Up close is where this character wants to be.

World Eaters Slaughterbound

The Slaughterbound is one scary customer. That 10″ move is no joke for running around the tabletop. He’s also Toughness 6 with a 3+/5++ save and 6 wounds to boot. It’s also worth noting that keyword-wise, on top of what you’d expect, he’s got Daemon — which makes sense.

Where I think the Slaughterbound really shines (outside of Close Combat obviously) is the fact that thanks to his Rage Eternal ability you get to return one destroyed Bodyguard model to play during the Command Phase. That’s free points!

I also like the fact that if he joins a World Eaters Possessed unit during the Declare Battle Formations step that he’s got Deep Strike and Scout 6″ as well. Basically this character and his friends are going to get where they need to be one way or another. And when they get there it’s not going to be pretty.

The World Eaters and Death Guard are both coming next week. It’s going to be a good week for chaos!
