The new elven expansions for The One Ring and its 5E counterpart, Lord of the Rings Roleplaying, promise power enough for three Rings.

It feels a little ironic to be writing about an Elven expansion for The One Ring and Adventures in Middle-earth, since the Third Age was pretty much a time marked by the retreat of the elves from the world. They famously diminish and pass away into the West. But here we are.

Two new books open up the Realms of the Elves. For The One Ring (Free League’s LotR RPG) there’s Realms of the Three Rings. And for the 5E counterpart, Lord of the Rings Roleplaying, there’s Keepers of the Elven-Rings. Both books hold the promise of exploring the immortal elves in Middle-earth, including rules for playing as one of the mighty Elf-Lords like Gil-Galad in solo play.

Lord of the Rings Roleplaying And The One Ring Elven Expansions – Two Books, Three Rings

Both books tackle the same subjects, just with different specifics when it comes to rules. For instance, The One Ring‘s Elf Lord rules are aimed at solo play, while the 5E version of Elf Lords are aimed at Epic play because they can reach 20th level. But by and large, here’s what you’ll find in each book:

  • Chapter 1: Where The West-elves Still Linger describes the realms of Lórien, Rivendell and Lindon and those who dwell there, including the Elf-lords who are their guardians.
  • Chapter 2: The Days Darken provides the Loremaster with details about Sauron’s schemes against the Immortal Folk, including possible events, Adversaries, and Loremaster characters.
  • Chapter 3: Landmarks outlines twelve sites of interest, including locations mentioned in The Lord of the Rings™ and others created specifically for the game.
  • The Appendix contains rules to play High Elves of Rivendell and Wood Elves of Lórien, and introduces guidelines to create Elf-lords.

Both books are available now from Free League’s webstore or DriveThruRPG. So get ready to head into the last havens of the elves. Adventure awaits!

Middle-earth awaits!
