Warmachine-Hordes: Legion: Thagrosh is Back!
Looking leaner and meaner with this re-scuplt our blighted hero has returned. Thagrosh is pretty beefy with some great synergy for keeping things alive in your army. Which ironically is not what Legion is really known for.
Speaking of coming back remember Thag’s feat can bring back any warbeast. Even an Archangel is fair game!
Thagrosh’s spell card is pretty average.
He can conceal everybody with Fog of War. This is nice for Legion beasts because they ignore it. This can cause problems for non eyeless sight models if they are trying to shoot back. Deathstalkers , Raptors, and Striders will not be happy if the enemy is concealed usually.
Mutagenesis is a wanky way to move up the field. If he an enemy model with this spell he can place himself where it was. I have tried some low % assassinations with this one. Watch out keeping those easy to kill support pieces to close to your caster.
Bad Blood is an anti hordes beast spell. If you know you are going to do some damage to a beast but, maybe not kill it consider throwing this at them. They can’t heal for a turn and that missing aspect will stay missing for at least one more round.
Draconic Blessing is a strength buff. This makes your beasts hit harder or your infantry a little more threatening. Casting this on a unit of Raptors can really make those weapon master hits that much more deadly.
Lastly he has the giant nuke Obliteration. He is no Vayl2 but can make you pay for crowding low arm infantry to close together.
Thagrosh has some unique abilities that other caster’s do not. He lowers the enemies strength by 2 in his command. A good way to look at it is your army has 2 higher ARM in melee. Which can be really annoying for some of the pillow fisted melee troops.
Thagrosh can cast an animus for free once per turn. Just when you thought you couldn’t hand out enough tenacities!
Thagrosh has a spray ranged weapon with respectable range. He doesn’t need eyeless sight to kill your stealth solos when he can breathe fire on them.
Playing with Thagrosh:
You can sacrifice a beast and bring it back. Most armies can kill a gargantuan once. Can they do it 2 times is a different question all together. With Thag’s strength debuff and a carniveans spiny growth the archangel can get a really respectable ARM stat. The arch is usually left at home but Thag can make him somewhat viable. If you can trade early a heavy for heavy and feat back your’s you usually will be way ahead in the attrition game. Warspears are pretty popular choice for Thagrosh because his strength upkeep spell works on their thrown weapons.
Playing against Thagrosh.
Realize his armies ARM is 2 higher in melee than normal. If you have access to remove from play you can RFP beasts and he can’t use his feat to bring it back.
