40K: Tau Hunter Contingent Rules – CONFIRMED
The time for rumors is over. Here’s the confirmed layout of the Tau’s new “Decurion”. And you thought Tau shooting was bad now!

So let’s take a look at what the minimum units for the Hunter Detachment entail:
1 Commander
3 Fire Warior / Kroot “line infantry units”
1 unit of the “normal suits”
1 unit of “fast attack / infiltration units”
1 unit of “heavy support tanks / suits”
Unlike some other Decurions, all of these solid units were already in most player’s armies – and there aren’t any “formation tax” units in there.
Basically the formation is really flexible and doesn’t include any “crap units”. I expect pretty much every standard Tau armylist to be able to fall into the Hunter Detachment. And that means giving a +1 BS to the entire codex for free – in addition to the standard formation special rules. Those Tau Fire Warrior gunlines will make you think twice at BS:4 and when The Tau field combinations like a Hunter Contingent with an Armored Interdiction Cadre, you will get things like Hammerheads firing at BS:5 with rerolls! With marketlights aplenty don’t look to cover to protect you either.

~ So this looks about right – all upside, no downside for the “Decurion”. It’s not 33% free units like the Marines get, but I won’t look a gift horse in the mouth…
