The LEGO Batman series was introduced in 2006, based on the superhero character Batman, under license from DC Comics. The sets feature vehicles, characters and scenes from the comics and films. The inspirations for the design of these LEGO sets vary widely, from the sleek shape and prominent fins of the Batmobile from the Tim Burton films, to the hulking "Tumbler" from the Christopher Nolan films. The theme covers multiple TV series, video games and films, with over two dozen LEGO Batman kits released, ranging from large complex sets aimed at collectors, to small simple ones aimed at children.

LEGO is a line of plastic construction toys manufactured by the Lego Group, a privately held company based in Billund, Denmark. LEGO consists of variously colored interlocking plastic bricks made of acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) that accompany an array of gears, figurines called minifigures, and various other parts. LEGO pieces can be assembled and connected in many ways to construct objects, including vehicles, buildings, and working robots. Assembled LEGO models can be taken apart, and their pieces reused to create all new constructions.

The LEGO Group began manufacturing the interlocking toy bricks in 1949. It is one of Europe's biggest companies, and LEGO is the largest toy manufacturer in the world by sales. As of July 2015, 600 billion LEGO parts had been produced.
