The first LEGO® Star Wars sets came out in 1999, with the Landspeeder (7110), Snowspeeder (7130), X-wing Fighter (7140) and TIE Fighter & Y-wing (7150) featuring characters including Obi Wan Kenobi and Luke Skywalker from the original Star Wars movies. These were quickly followed by others from the first prequel film Star Wars: The Phantom Menace in 1999. The LEGO Star Wars range consists of everything from meter-long Imperial Star Destroyers aimed as adult collectors, to minutely detailed minifigures, and even family-friendly video games set in the "Galaxy, Far, Far Away".

LEGO is a line of plastic construction toys manufactured by the Lego Group, a privately held company based in Billund, Denmark. LEGO consists of variously colored interlocking plastic bricks made of acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) that accompany an array of gears, figurines called minifigures, and various other parts. LEGO pieces can be assembled and connected in many ways to construct objects, including vehicles, buildings, and working robots. Assembled LEGO models can be taken apart, and their pieces reused to create all new constructions.

The LEGO Group began manufacturing the interlocking toy bricks in 1949. It is one of Europe's biggest companies, and LEGO is the largest toy manufacturer in the world by sales. As of July 2015, 600 billion LEGO parts had been produced.
