The Horus Heresy is a fictional galaxy-spanning civil war from UK game manufacturer Games Worksop's Warhammer 40,000 sci-fi setting.Also known as the Age of Darkness, the Horus Heresy was the first and most devastating galaxy-spanning civil war in Imperial history. Occurring in early M31 and lasting several years, it divided and nearly destroyed the fledgling Imperium of Man. It marked the end of the Great Crusade and the encasing of the Emperor of Mankind into the Golden Throne.

The Horus Heresy occurred 9000 years before the "current timeline" of Warhammer 40,000, and serves as a dramatic pre-history and foundation for the game's grimdark setting.

Games Workshop produced an enormous Horus Heresy novel series lavishishly chronicling the civil war that spans over 60 novels. The series was published between 2006 and 2024. There were 54 Horus Heresy main novels published by Games Workshop. Of them, sixteen are anthologies of Horus Heresy novellas, short stories and audio dramas. Unabridged audio books of every entry have also been released. Following the 54th novel, The Buried Dagger, the Horus Heresy main series was continued with the 12-novel "Siege of Terra" series, completing the entire cycle.

Games Workshop additionally has publshed mutiple tabletop and board games set during the Horus Heresy era, including Warhammer: Age of Darkness, Legions Imperialis, Adeptus Titanicus, and others.
